Essay:
Sonja Hall is a PTA who did an excellent job of teaching me how to be more independent in my treatment of patients. Sonja is great at teaching students because of her excellent communication skills. She will go over the patient's chart with you before you see the patient, and once the treatment is over she gives detailed feedback about your treatment performance and is more than willing to answer any question you might have. Sonja also strives to make use of any extra time we might have during the day to enhance the learning experience. We have gone over topics such as shoulder ROM and massage, knee ROM and massage, MET techniques for pelvic obliquities, and other techniques that we might have for different patients. Sonja also expresses a lot of confidence and knowledge of her profession. She is very knowledgeable with the precautions, pathology, and appropriate exercises for every patient I have seen her treat. She is very flexible in patient treatment and meeting their needs and changing the treatment session to further facilitate their needs while staying in the plan of care. She has also shown to be very friendly with the patients and many patients who came to the clinic wanted to work with her specifically. What personally facilitated the best learning from me, was the constant feedback that she gave to me during the first couple of weeks, then after the third week, she gradually gave me more independence. I cannot stress enough how this helped me grow as a PTA student, ever since my clinical with Sonja my confidence with treating patients has gotten much better. I can now make my own treatment plans, I am much more flexible with my treatment plans, I have tons more confidence, I am much more independent, and also I feel like I have learned a lot from the feedback she gave me and I have incorporated it into my treatment sessions. In conclusion, I think Sonja has done a great job of showing me what a PTA should look like and what I should aspire for.
