Some things about Kim that have made a difference to me are that she helped me feel comfortable with children with special needs right away, showing me exactly what to do and then having me take over while observing from a comfortable distance, giving me freedom while still helping me whenever I had a question or needed it. She also helped me through some difficult situations with children, sicknesses/illnesses the children experiences while we were in the classroom. She made me have a lot of confidence I did not have before this clinical, that I really did know what I was doing and was prepared for this clinical experience. In the school setting there is a lot of unpredictability and dealing with the unavoidable potentially stressful situations. Both from other adults or teachers and the children/students. Student health is so fragile that things can change at any moment. Kim showed me how she handles these difficult situations and was a great role model on how I could approach a similar situation.
