Amber Bjerke has been a Clinical Instructor for our program for many years. She is always one of the first clinical partners to volunteer to accept a student for the part-time and full-time internships. Whenever I need a clinical placement, I can always count on Amber and the Jewish Senior Services to accept a student. Amber is kind, compassionate, and caring towards her patients and students. She takes the time to thoroughly explain the rational of each treatment and makes sure the student is prepared and comfortable with the treatment plan before initiating the treatment. Recently, Amber had a challenging situation with a student who was not grasping the treatment concepts as quickly as he should have. The student had severe anxiety and lacked confidence in his skills. Amber recognized his challenges and quickly implemented strategies to help him overcome those obstacles. She broke down tasks and worked with him on off days to review treatment techniques and to fill the student with confidence and positive reassurance. This was a challenge she has never had before, but she accepted it and helped the student succeed in passing the clinical experience.
